BARLOW STREET COMMUNITY CENTER

The Barlow Street Community Center is located @ 39 Barlow Street and is home to Caring Communities Mentoring Program, St. Albans Pre-School, The Teen Center and other community rooms available for rent by interested community groups. In addition, there is a great playground for kids, tennis courts, basketball courts and ball fields to enjoy. 

If you or your group is interested in finding out what might be available to meet your needs, call 524-1519 or email m.boulerice@stalbansvt.com for more information and details. Tables, chairs, TV/VCR/DVD units and erasable boards are available for your use.

SUBSEQUENT PAYMENTS DUE MUST BE PAID BY NO LATER THAN THE THURSDAY BEFORE YOUR CHILD ATTENDS

 CAMP.REGISTRATION: Is required.  Forms will be available at The St. Albans Recreation Department, Kevin Smith’s Sports Connection, area schools and The Collins Perley Sports & Fitness Center. PLEASE NOTE: You may register for one week, multiple weeks or for the whole summer. The camp usually fills up quickly each year, so please register early to insure your child's space in the weeks that you would like them to attend.
OTHER INFO: This Day Camp is designed with a variety of activities to meet the needs of all participants. With The St.Albans City Elementary School building as our point of operation, we will various parts of the building to deliver a positive and fun camp experience:
* We will use the library for story hours, films and other activities.
* The gymnasium is used for all types of indoor activities like indoor soccer, floor hockey, basketball, indoor bowling and more.
• The school’s outdoor playground and athletic fields are used for fun outdoor activties.
• Special theme days and weeks all during camp.
• Special activities, guests and field trips during the course of camp.
• Brown bag lunches and snacks are refrigerated.
• Weekly Arts & Crafts projects
• Daily use of the City Pool is always fun.  ( Weather permitting)

GREATER ST. ALBANS AREA RECREATION TRAILS

The citizens of St. Albans are fortunate to now have three recreation trail systems in our community.  The three are as follows:

1. Central Vermont Rail Trail is a 9 mile abandoned rail bed with all rails and ties remove.  The trail starts at the North City/Town border and continues to Sheldon Jct.  The trail is for mountain biking, walking, and snowmobiling.

2. Aldis Hill trails are a system of trails excellent for hiking, running, or mountain biking.  The trails may be accessible from Isham Ave (walk in only) or Hard’ack (parking available).  Aldis Hill is a completely wooded area with two beautiful vistas.

3. The Collins/Perley Fitness path is approximately 1-½ miles long and winds around the perimeter of the Collins/Perley Sports Center.  The path surface includes crushed limestone and stretches of pavement.  Annual improvements to the trail funded by the St. Albans Rotary Club.  Fitness stations are available all along the trail.

RECREATION AREA- (TOP OF CONGRESS ST) Skiing, snowboarding, sliding, outdoor rink, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, hiking trails, soccer fields.

BURTON ISLAND STATE PARK - (HATHAWAY POINT AREA) – State of Vermont.

CAMP KILL KARE STATE PARK- (HATHAWAY POINT AREA) – State of Vermont.

COLLINS PERLEY SPORTS & FITNESS CENTER- (FAIRFAX RD, ROUTE 104)  Fitness Center, Indoor tennis, Indoor rink, walking path, multiple fields, racquetball and home to BFA Athletics.

MISSISQUOI RAIL TRAIL- (INTERSECTION OF RT 7 & RT 105 ) 26 miles long to Richford, Vermont.

TAYLOR PARK- (DOWNTOWN MAIN ST-ST. ALBANS) Walking paths, Gazebo, benches, summer concerts.

ST. ALBANS TOWN EDUCATION CENTER- (SOUTH MAIN ST-ST. COMPANY PARTIES AT CITY POOL!

Always wondering where to have your annual summer picnic for your company staff?  The St. Albans City Pool is your answer!  We will schedule your event, supply Red Cross certified lifeguards, picnic tables, locker-rooms, green space to play Frisbee, a volleyball net, goals for water polo and plenty of parking.  Our rates are great. ATTENTION:  VOLUNTEER OFFICIALS & UMPIRES NEEDED

The upcoming Summer and Fall seasons promise to once again be very busy for all St. Albans area youth sports programs. As always, there is always a tremendous need for officials for Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth Baseball, Softball, Youth Soccer and more.  If you have an interest in officiating and would like to volunteer some of your time and expertise, please call the St. Albans Recreation Department at 524-1519 for more information about classes, clinics and other training opportunities. In addition, you can e-mail us at mike.boulerice@verizon.net.

GYMKIDS ACADEMY BIRTHDAY PARTIES

For ages 2 and up.  We can help you design a birthday party event to meet your child’s interest in gymnastics, cheerleading and tennis.  All parties will include a lesson that is age appropriate with the proper equipment supplied, fun games and lots of socialization.  Each child will receive a ribbon.Parties can be scheduled at your home, school, pre-school, City Hall or Barlow Street Community Center.(Scheduling subject to availability of space requested) COST: $150.00 per party (3 hours)

The St. Albans Recreation Department will again be selling discount tickets to The Great Escape and Six Flags of New England, beginning in May.  Prices are as follows: Great Escape Adult (over 48”) $24.00 – gate price is $39.99 plus tax

MISSISQUOI VALLEY RAIL TRAIL BICYCLING & WALKING GUIDES FOR FRANKLIN COUNTY
Thanks to the Northwest Regional Planning Commission and the member municipalities who sponsored these great guides for use by outdoor enthusiasts.  The Recreation Department has copies of both for anyone who is interested.They feature great detail about The Rail Trail and what to do in the area.  In addition, the biking and walking guide also features The Rail Trail, Lake Champlain Bikeways Routes, 21 other trails and routes to explore on foot or by bike, bicycle rental information and other transportation services.
